Product Ingredients

Now is a timely reminder to ALWAYS check the ingredients list.

We speak at "GO GREEN " Expos and "ALLERGY FREE & HEALTHY LIVING" shows all around New Zealand about the importance of always checking the ingredients list. This is PARAMOUNT.

With loads of 'new' products being touted via social media every day "Ingredient Awareness" is more important than ever before.

If you aren't bothered about what is in your skin care or shampoo products - stop reading now, this isn't for you.

The skin is the largest organ of our body and the most abused. Everything we eat and drink is metabolized through our digestive system. The body takes what nutrients it needs via our cardiovascular system and discards what it perceives as dangerous or doesn't want. This is a major issue today, as there are more nasty chemicals, more preservatives, more emulsifiers and more additives in our cosmetics and diet than ever before, and these can manifest themselves as skin issues in a lot of people. Yes all these toxic ingredients are approved for human consumption by highly paid chemists who state that "may cause skin irritation" on its safety data sheet, that covers their backsides, and guarantees their big pay cheque. And because all this info comes from approved drug agencies and food agencies, we are expected to believe them and accept their word without question.

Today there is still a multitude of toxic ingredients in cosmetics, shampoos and skin care products. Here is a short list:

DEA, (Diethanolamine) MEA ( Monoethanolamine) & TEA (Triethanolamine) - They take the form of hormone disrupting chemicals that can form cancer causing agents - linked to liver and kidney cancer

Phthalates and Parabens - Banned by the European Union in 2003, yet still commonly used as preservatives in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.

FD&C Colour Pigments - Made from Coal Tar, almost all of these are carcinogenic, causing skin sensitivity and irritation, even oxygen depletion in the blood. FD&C Red #4 may have been removed from food use, but continues to be used in cosmetics.

Fragrances - Over 4000 different ingredients, and full disclosure of the fragrance contents and manufacturing ingredients is not necessary due to "commercial secrecy". Fragrances affect the central nervous system, as does "over use" of essential oils.

Isopropyl Alcohol - Used in after shaves, body lotions, colour rinses and body rubs - oh and its also used as an ingredient in vehicle anti freeze and timber varnish

Mineral Oil - is petroleum based and baby oil is 100% mineral oil. Mineral Oil prevents the skin from breathing and causes premature skin aging

Propylene Glycol is the active ingredient in vehicle anti freeze - it also appears in tooth paste, make up and stick deodorants. Direct contact can cause Brain, Liver and Kidney abnormalities. The EPA  (Environmental Protection Agency)requires workers to wear protective gloves, clothing and goggles when working with it, yet the FDA say we can put it in our mouths

Sodium Lauryl Sulphate & Sodium Laureth Sulphate These are the most toxic ingredients on the list. When combined with other chemicals, they can form nitrosamines, a deadly class of carcinogen. They are used to clean engines, garage floors and car washes - oh and they are commonly used in make up, shampoos and conditioners and toothpaste

Triclosan - A synthetic antibacterial pesticide - highly toxic to any living organism, also classified as chlorophenol - it sits in a cancer causing chemical class. This is nasty - disrupts hormones, can effect sexual function and fertility- also linked to paralysis, suppression of the immune system, brain hemoohages and heart problems... It is widely used in anti bacterial cleansers, toothpaste and household products.

Talc... linked to ovarian and testicular cancer - found in makeup, baby and adult powders and foundations

Petrolatum - is a petro chemical and prevents the skin from breathing - contains two well known carcinogens - Benzo-A-Pyrene and Benzo-B-Fluroanthene

Information obtained from www.bewell.com , author, DR Frank Lipman "What Chemicals should you look out for in your personal care products"

Yes this makes shocking reading - but only YOU can decide whether you continue to use such toxic ingredients and products.

You have a choice as to what you eat, what products you choose to put onto your skin.... Its YOUR choice, but you HAVE to check the ingredients list. If something is being sold without a label - Do NOT buy it. It is a legal requirement in NZ that every cosmetic item is labelled. EVERY item needs to be labelled with its ingredients.

It is illegal to sell without a label - every soap needs a label. It is also illegal to state on the label that the product is an " Eczema Soap" or "Eczema Cream" "Psoriasis Cream" If this claim is on the label - Don't buy it - it is illegal labeling in NZ. The info can state it can be used on dry skin such as Eczema or Psoriasis, but it must NOT state that it will cure it or fix it

We have our never labelled our products like this, in fact we have been VERY reserved in our labeling - our reviews and customers tell us what our products are capable of doing - and we pass that information onto you by publishing these reviews and explaining its effectiveness at the expos and trade shows we attend.

Again - it is your CHOICE whether you buy or not.

A new comer to goat milk soap selling - is buying a pre-made "soap" mixture over the internet (contains water), melting that down at home, adding goat milk that was purchased somewhere down the road and claiming the same benefits as our products. This is clearly not possible as ingredients differ markedly (we tried it years ago as a comparison and the difference is the product and results is like night and day) - oh and the products are not labelled! They are not labelled because they don't want to have to declare that there is Palm Oil in the product - they probably don't even realise that there is Palm Oil in it

If a Goats Milk Soap or Shampoo product has water (aqua) on its ingredients list, then it will never compete with what we offer - Our hard bar products DO NOT contain water. Water is used to re-hydrate a powder solution of Goat Milk. Goat Milk powder is designed for internal consumption, so has vitamins and minerals added to benefit the body - to us, these offer no benefit as a soap ingredient, and there is always going to be significant product integrity loss due to the dehydration process.

We use our full fat raw liquid goat milk for our soaps (no processing here) - here's something - rub our goat milk onto your irritated skin and see what happens, then rub goat milk powder onto another part of your irritated skin and see what happens.......... powder doesn't do much eh!

This is where really paying attention to the ingredients pays off.

You know that each of our primary ingredients are edible. This is done deliberately. Tracy's medical background as an Anesthetic Technician means that she has seen loads of Medical skin issues and Malcolm's sport back ground has seen him exposed to sport issues including sweat, sweat rashes and loads of abrasions.

We have taken ALL those life experiences and used that info to produce what we think is a series of world leading products - ALL HAND MADE. This is important because we don't need preservatives in order to get raw materials to run through a machine. We will continue to make ALL our products by hand to maintain our 'Natural' point of difference.

We don't use Palm Oil. It would definitely be a cheaper alternative, but Palm Oil is also a skin irritant to some - we aren't concerned that you think it is sustainably harvested, we CHOOSE NOT to use Palm Oil.

Palm Oil is known by over 200 different names - if a soap says it contains vegetable oil and doesn't elaborate- then it is Palm Oil.... 4 soaps for $5-00 ... all palm oil... you get the idea..... again we DO NOT USE PALM OIL nor do we feed Palm Based stock feeds. Palm Kernel feed has been shown to be very detrimental to ruminant animals by being the main cause of destroying rumen papillae, meaning the animal can no longer ruminate or "chew their cud" - a fundamental function of sheep, goats, cattle, yak, giraffe, moose, reindeer, deer, buffalo......

Our Coconut Oil is Organic AND Fair Trade Oil sourced from Papua New Guinea. This means that local villages and families work hard to produce a local product that they are proud of. They are fairly rewarded for their work and product at the end of the day, while improving their social and environmental standards.

At the end of the day everything is about choice. We have been told that chemical products are safe for years... we are only discovering how wrong this has been.

We CHOOSE to HAND MAKE our products

We CHOOSE to use EDIBLE ingredients

We CHOOSE to be PALM OIL FREE

We CHOOSE to be WASTE FREE

We CHOOSE to be ETHICAL

We CHOOSE to be CRUELTY FREE

We CHOOSE to be SINGLE USE PLASTIC FREE

We CHOOSE to REFILL & REUSE

Start looking at Ingredients, asking questions - If questions aren't answered to your liking, move on. You DON'T have to buy from that person

Oh here's something...
